It is amazing what High School students will do for a Mars bar. I guess it is bragging rights.
I was teaching Power Point presentations and was showing them what not to do. One page was just a page of text and the point was that most people will not read it. Embedded in the text was if someone had read this far they would get a mars bar if they stood beside me and shouted "I am a winner" the second person would shout "I am a green elephant"etc.
At the bottom I put that I believe that rewards should be intrinsic rather than extrinsic.
The clever students read the first and the final lines and decided there wasn't anything in it.
I just sat there deadpan and only responded to the correct commands.
The looks of confusion and the desperate reading of the text was a classic. 100% class participation
