Whatever the case - families will have no choice but to pull their parents out of homes if the virus really takes off, as the nursing homes will not have enough staff to manage the extra precautions, and feed and clean and help so many elderly, and allow for those with viruses to take days off or self quarantine IMO. Australia is going to one of the worst effected countries, as we will be going into winter with the corona virus already established, a shortage of safety gear including masks (only 20m I believe - 3 months supply when there is no epidemic is hilariously low) for health workers and emergency services. Dentists usually use normal surgical masks as an example - but now need P2 or N95s. Also there is a shortage of surgical masks for putting on those suspected of having the virus. The federal government is looking at all the wrong things - and not looking at how to stop virus transmission and boost the population's resistance. They are not subsidising casuals to stay home if they are sick (which is even worse than having a labour shortage), creating "drive through" and walk in Covid virus testing centres (the burden on GPs is immense ATM). They also need an active plan to utilise spare labour if supply chains are broken down to manage the virus.
