    Uranium surge

BUT of particular note is the surge in some uranium stocks, movements that occurred without any news of note. Peninsula Minerals (PEN), which has the Lance project in Wyoming, has seen good gains in the past two weeks.

A-Cap Resources (ACB), in just four weeks, has been on a generally upward trend from 10.5c to 23.5c while another African uranium story, Bannerman Resources (BMN), has gone from 58.5c in January and is now north of $1. And the graph for Spanish uranium play Berkeley Resources (BKY) has a share graph trend from mid-January that must be the envy of many companies.

The latest quarterly report on the uranium sector from Sydney-based Resource Capital Research notes that the market valuation of Australian companies with one or more uranium projects is up 11 per cent over the past month -- and that average includes plenty of ones where share prices remain in the doldrums.

The report reminds us that two juniors are nearing production: Alliance Resources (AGS) with its 25 per cent of the Four Mile project in South Australia; and White Canyon Uranium (WCU) with production later this year at its Daneros project in Utah.

Next cabs off the rank with advanced development work are Berkeley at Salamanca in Spain, Energy Metals (EME) at Bigrlyi in the Northern Territory, Greenland Minerals & Energy (GGG) in those far northern climes, along with Toro Energy (TOE) in the NT (the company has also announced resource drilling at Wiluna in the West). There's also Uranex (UNX) in Western Australia and Tanzania.
