basically the claims of world's fastest VPN are probably true but it's no longer the magic internet accelerator/compressor that was originally hyped.

This analogy has been used before and is valid but some people feel that it's unjust. Speedtest and Wangle isn't too dissimilar to VW and the emissions testing. The only difference is that Wangle (well i hope they didn't) design their app to perform extra well with Speedtest. The analogy stands in the sense that Wangle's performance in ookla is extremely non representative of its real world performance. As far as I can gather in terms of Speed:

Ookla Wangle>>>> Normal connection
Wangle > Normal Connection (<20Mbit)
Normal Connection >> Wangle (>20Mbit)
Wangle>>>Open VPN based VPN (Any connection)
