how long was the spider..that will give some clue..
it is clearly not a red back a funnell web or a white tailed spider from the disciption..and therefore not poisonous
red back spiders(Laterodectus) are easy to identify..bites are common but deaths rare
there are two genera of funnel weds Atrax and Hadronyche.
the hadronyche is a fairly fat black beast. the Atrax is smaller and brown. they are usually ground dwellers and do not hang about in mid air
other spiders are huntsmans,orb-weaving spiders,wolf spiders and trapdoor spiders. these may bite but do not cause much effect
thewhite tailed spider (Lampona cylindrata)is sort of a grey beast with only a small white dot at the tail
