Safran Toulouse is the name of the new Toulouse site of the equipment manufacturer, inaugurated 27 September. Located in the heart of Andromeda in Blagnac, a few hundred meters of Airbus, its essential customer, building, oriented "industry of the future", includes 1300 employees of different Group entities.
"This site is the standard of our presence in the Occitan region. The aim was not to create new activities there, but to consolidate our teams until now spread across multiple sites, some were obsolete, "said Andre Guiraud, the Regional Director Safran, at the inauguration of the new entity on 27 September.Carole Delga, the president of the Association was present, as well as the regional prefect Mailhos Pascal, Bernard Keller, mayor of Blagnac, and Alain Di Crescenzo, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Toulouse. Philippe Petitcolin, CEO of Safran, reminded elected the weight of the territory as a group.
"Between Safran and Occitan is an old story, with 3 200 employees here, of which 1 300 on this website, we are the 3rd aeronautics employer, we also have 600 suppliers and a volume purchase of 300 millions of euros".
Designed by the Parisian architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte, the Safran Toulouse building is spread over 25,000 m2 and brings together the Safran regional office, shared service centers, the headquarters of Safran Electrical & Power and its research laboratories dedicated to the more electric aircraft, the headquarters and offices of Safran Engineering Services studies, local saffron antennas Electronics & Defense and Safran aircraft Engines.
The implementation of Safran Toulouse, in the heart of the Andromeda area (like Akka Technologies) and a few hundred meters from Airbus and the airport area, owes nothing to chance. "1/3 of sales of Safran comes from Airbus, and prioritize customers is at the heart of our values ," emphasized Philippe Petitcolin, recalling in passing that six copies of the A320 Neo with an engine Leap have been delivered to date.
A research laboratory on more electric aircraft
Faced with the ramp-up production of its customers (Airbus, Dassault ...) Safran must ensure the renewal of skills of its technical teams. This is why the Toulouse site was equipped with a training center dedicated to the aircraft on wiring installation. This center, the largest of the group, was calibrated to form up to 70 people per day and 1,500 a year on average.
"We have three standard rooms and a modular workshop allowing operators and controllers to practice in real conditions," describes Frank Riom responsible for the European services activities at Safran.
Another feature of the new building: a laboratory of R & T turned to research on more electric aircraft that employs 50 people. Safran has indeed implemented several years of internal innovation and dedicated devices also 12% of its total turnover (17.4 billion euros in 2014) to R & D. "We are currently working on new types of cables and rely on augmented reality technology to implement a predictive maintenance system, improve production and control" described Sébastien Jaulerry, general manager of the division Ewis Eurasia at Safran Electrical Power.
Safran in this field put on open innovation, "for more specific technological bricks and go faster." The group is already working with two Parisian startups Diota and MS Win and Spikenet Toulouse, specializing in image processing.
