In a good sign for this Inverleigh reopening of the Melbourne to Adelaide standard gauge line, the first Sydney to Perth intermodal (container) train for a few days was at 0830 on Monday 21 November approaching Cootamundra on the main Sydney-Melbourne line, with it to operate via Broiadmeadows and the back of Newport station in Melbourne, and then down to North Shore and up to Ararat and Horsham.
It's a longer route than via Broken Hill but this remains partly closed due to continuing flooding, with residents at Condobolin erecting a temporary sandbank levee as waters continue to bear down.
