Labor went along with the tax package in the Senate because it recognised that the ailing economy needs to be stimulated and low and middle income Australians need some monetary relief given the govt took so much away by taking away penalty rates. Labor in fact wanted the second tranche of the tax cuts to be brought forward to now to provide even greater relief but the govt has chosen to delay that by nearly three years. The govt preferring to play politics, wanting to be seen as giving another tax cut just before the next election. Of course if the economy goes belly up all hell will break loose.
