The human spirt and the rational soul are one and the same. The mind is the power of the spirit. If the spirit could be likened to a candle, then the mind is the light that shines from that candle. The mind is the essential quality of the spirit.

Now, one could go into great detail about the interface of mind a spirit. How the development of the mind intellectually and emotionally, how the acquisition a goodly virtues leads to the development and growth in the human spirit. This in turn allows for further development of the mind. Both support each other in a feed-back loop that can flow in both positive and negative directions.

Possibly the most essential virtue one should strive for is a highly developed sense of justice without which one will only see the world through the eyes of others. A developed sense of justice will give a person the tools to independently investigate all supposed truth and not follow without question. This leads to further development of the mind which further enhances the soul.

Some religions actually encourage their followers to forgo tertiary education so as to go off teaching the masses their religious belief. There could be no more sure proof of the fact that these religions are no more than misguided constructs than this.

When the mind finally succumbs to the tyranny of age or disease the human spirit remains intact and is not subject to decomposition.
