I don't want to be too negative, but for the past 2 quarters PLS has disclosed the average index SC6 pricing compared to the PLS achieved average price for the quarter. For the June and September quarters the discounts PLS took on the average quarterly prices were 32% and 31% respectively. Why the discounts have been so big? I don't know.
When everyone was chasing spodumene end of 2022, there must have been hardly any discount based on the auction results.
Hopefully the discounts will be smaller in future as 32% discount on the USD1600(you mentioned) would then mean USD1088/t for SC5.3.
With unit operating costs around USD 658, that would leave a gross margin of only USD 430/t. Not much.
You can figure out what an annual profit roughly looks like then also. Maybe that explains why some are so happily shorting PLS.
