Judging by Tesla batteries, after 8 years of use (using annual travel distance of 15.000km), battery capacity is still between 70 to 80%, maybe that is similar to the wear and tear on ICE. However, battery "pack" costs are sitting at ~$130/kWh today, and with average battery pack in a BEV sitting at ~60kWh, the current cost is closer to $7,800. Cost per kWh in 2010 was $1,350, so they've already come a long way, new pack tech going forward wont change pricing much, I believe cost of battery materials will be the major driver going forward.
I understand, EV battery cells with degraded capacity of 70% do have a second life in stationary storage, then to the recycler thereafter. Battery materials installed in batteries today may still be in circulation in 2050 through recycling.
