It goes back a lot further than 18 months. I remember holding 36K NCM in 1996 and suddenly serious issues with Telfer started the SP on a slide to under $1.50 in late 1997. I recall I got out in the 3's but shoulda hung on for a decade.
IMHO their propensity to spring unpleasant surprises could be due to information not flowing freely up and down the command chain. Sounds like facts at the "coal face" are not penetrating freely up the chain.
