29/11/11:
The spot price of uranium continued to drift downward over the past week and is at, or slightly below, $52 a pound U3O8 midday Tuesday, according to price publishers TradeTech and Ux Consulting.
TradeTech lowered its weekly price last Wednesday to $52.25/lb, down 50 cents/lb from the previous week. TradeTech's daily price Monday dropped to $52/lb.
UxC Monday dropped its weekly price to $51.75/lb, down $1/lb from UxC's November 21 price.
Over the next three months, it would not be surprising if the spot price dropped to $50/lb or lower in order to stimulate more demand, UxC said in its Monday report. But UxC also reminded its readers that at around $50/lb, additional buying has appeared to stabilize prices.
UxC's broker average price, or BAP, was $51.38/lb Monday, down from the BAP of $52.63/lb on November 22. The BAP bid-offer spread Monday was $51-$51.75/lb. UxC notes that the BAP is based on the price information from Evolution Markets.
The Platts NuclearFuel range for the week was $51-$54/lb U3O8.
In its Monday report, UxC said that its end-of-the-month spot price for uranium enrichment services dropped to $140/separative work unit, or SWU. That is a $5/SWU drop from the price at the end of October and a drop of $15/SWU since the end of January. Competition in the spot SWU market has increased this year in the face of limited demand, UxC said.
