For me its at least beat it by a few % points or match its progress. A good quality holding will do this with minimal fees charged. And if you hold, and accumulate (through SPP) over the years (or decades), incur no transaction costs...over time wealth will increase.
This is the best way to enhance wealth if you dont want to bring intensity in conducting research and picking individual businesses. If you are not phased by the short term - quality LICs are the way to go.
