The more apt analogy for HGO would be that your son already had an HSV, and sold just over half of it for $10k to pay his rego, fill up the tank and maybe get some new tyres. What a great deal!
I agree that small holders sell their shares with a view to picking new shares up in thge SPP (it is the first thing i did when the spp was announced - i wish i had sold more) - but do you think instos are any different? Any discounted placement will see the share price tank as traders lock in the arb.
The funding should have been acheived with a renouncable rights offer to existing shareholders and the sale of peripheral assets.
