As a shareholder since 2014 I think I am down approx 19% for my trouble. I like most I suspect invest in spec stocks knowing they are a risk but keep the investment parcel small. The issue is they tend to grow with time through participation and next thing you know, your holdings are not so small. Yet again I have participated but with only $10,000. Yes I could have bought on market for the same price but that would not help the cash position of the company I own shares in.
For me it is a begrudging yes to participation. I think it is all about your tolerance to risk and my advice is only invest what you are prepared to lose.
