There is a failed shale oil plant on the central Qld coast, from memory.
That was outside Gladstone and the Rundle Twins hoped to mine it but it was uneconomical with oil price of the day but it was greenies destroyed it. I suspect the resource is now in the hands of Yanks.
CGT, Your pic of the oil-sands has nothing to do with shale oil or tight oil. It is widely accepted that tar sands is just about the worst oil source imaginable [gas from corn is worse]. Look on the bright side, the more tight oil recovered the less tar sands mined.
