    I have one, they are expensive. They work.

    You put food scraps in, the flies are attracted and lay eggs in the lid. The Black Soldier Fly larvae are more dominant and will kill other maggots. BSF do not eat as adult flies so they will not harass you. The BSF larvae will wriggle up the ramp and drop into the bucket. For a month put the larvae on the ground so they can continue the cycle. Now they are the dominant species. After this feed them to chooks, ducks, reptiles or fish.

    I got onto this through microponics.

    Plenty of vids on youtube on how to make your own.

    BTW it needs to be fairly close to the house and will stink for a while. Once the maggots are at half capacity the smell disappears.

    Start it down the back and move closer.

    During summer I can feed 6 chooks only larvae from the scraps from 2 people and the veg garden.
