Agree Kalahari and it was a free piece of exposure that really won't do anything to the sp but exposure is important. The half educated running the ruler over SVM will quickly see it is self serving and premature. The corporate world - any means to extract and fleece - I wonder if the two writers hold SVM - somehow I doubt it.
Have SVM attracted a serious insto/fund with upcoming capital raise - that would be significant or going to the same well?
Is Malawi going to do something positive and issue a DA to GBE who have been trying to progress and waiting 10 years - they are the 2 keys for me. Tick the above off and SVM have an extremely bright future but I can not see the top one happening without the bottom one.
If MCP and UTM alliance win upcoming election - will they - as Chakwera the head of that alliance do as he stated and implement massive 50% mining company taxes - how long will one have to wait until we know. That would see a new scoping study on graphite assets blow out capex/opex and would be detrimental to the rutile development. Particularly with the high cost of diesel electricity supply until years away wen grid power is available. Same applies to GBE and others looking to develop mining interests in landlocked Malawi.
This country is in the top 5 poorest in the world - sadly they show little interest in development and happy to struggle away on agriculture and global hand outs in aide that gets plundered by corrupt politicians and officials at every level.
SVM have had issues with locals at the Malingunde graphite already - having paid a small levy for interruption on their farm lands when drilling - locals protested they did not receive any compensation - appears the officials pocketed the money.
Mining has a terrible reputation in Malawi from locals - from companies big and small like Paladin (the only large scale mine in Malawi on care and maintenance for the past 6 years and recently sold) - from corrupt officials - village chiefs to the extreme vulnerable uneducated poor locals. The result is an absolute mess and sees few companies doing any more corporate social projects - GBE use to do a lot in build a school - medical centre - water wells. SVM I don't recall doing anything - perhaps a water well here and there. The U.K. outfit with rare earth asset has done a bit in recent times.
For all the international aide/monies invested in Malawi over the past 10 years to develop a modern, accountable mining industry it remains a mess due to poor governance and as usual poor media reporting. Such the mess - a new international funded impressive building remains incomplete and derelect. This was to house all the different mining departments and boy there's a lot of them for a country that has no mining happening. The funds allocated were looted by officials as with everything in Malawi and international aide having had enough of these Malawian practices seem to have lost patience.
Anyway I share just a couple of thoughts and events. I'm certainly no expert in all things in Malawi but I could go on and on from my 13 years following GBE and later SVM. Having been exposed in an ASX listed entity in Kazhakstan one learns to research a little harder in these places in finding the next big thing. For me I'm still invested a little in both but I have learned why it is far better to be invested in quality jurisdictions with quality governments and mining policies. My thoughts have shifted to the plight of the people more than my money invested - it's abhorrent what past and present govts do to the people - #%#^in Maddona has done more in charity work and financial aide.
