I believe you are correct - 3d doesn't show if a zone contains water.

But if you know from drilling that a certain structure contains water - 3d's will make it easy to avoid that structure.

Phone call with Brett:
I asked - "to avoid water in the future do we just not drill as deep"
Brett replied - "depth isn't the issue, avoiding that structure is"

he then implied it was easily done

I would still like to hear an opinion from the geophysicist though.
