I don't know what the Sri Lankans thought they were doing when they opened the batting with the pinch-hitting Kusal Perera at the expense of the in-form specialist opener Thirimanne. A settled batting order was suddenly unsettled and I'm not surprised with what followed because suddenly everyone's role changed and they were all at sea as a result - not a good idea against such a high-quality bowling attack in SA and in a QF to boot.
You also have to consider the pattern of the tournament with steady starts allowing platforms to be built with wickets in hand and 100-150+ runs coming off the final 15 overs of most innings for the teams batting first. That all went out the window today. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot before a ball was even bowled!
