Fairly relevant as it would be interesting to see some news that comes out on what the health minister actually presents...i'd say we'll see in the news what he said at the conference in regards to clinical waste management. How impressive will srilanka look at this conference having signed the deal to purchase 25 metamizers and be the south asian leaders in waste

Apr 25, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena will leave for Moscow today to participated in the First Global Ministerial Conference on Healthy Lifestyles and Non- communicable Disease (NCD) Control to be held in Moscow.

The Conference is jointly organized by the Russian Federation and World Health Organization (WHO), and takes place on 28-29 April 2011.

The WHO says the conference is a key milestone in the international campaign to curb the impacts of cancers, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and chronic lung diseases.

Minister Sirisena will be speaking at the Conference on the progress Sri Lanka has achieved in controlling non-communicable diseases such as cancer, high blood pressure, and diabetes.

The Conference expects to address the state of the NCD epidemic, its impact on economic development and poverty alleviation, and strategies to control NCDs.

Among the key attendees are Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, Russian Minister of Health and Social Development Tatyana Golikova, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Director-General of WHO Margaret Chan and health ministers and officials from other UN member countries.
