Handheld XRF have a high degree of error, especially on drill chips and drill core.
The error is 10-50%, depending on the nature of the mineralisation and type of samples.
Basically the XRF tells the geo that there is copper there, and if its good, bad, or super hot. It helps to confirm to the geo if they should press on, add holes or give up and drill elsewhere.
This is why most companies with any degree of integrity will not report actual XRF grades - they will never be as accurate as a chemical analyse from a lab.
