This is a mess because the government keeps getting bullied by interest groups, opposition and the media. They went to an election with a plebiscite promise. They won the election. Unfortunately they couldn't get it through the senate and then they panicked when the people who blocked it in the senate have a go at them. Their lack of backbone is pathetic.
All they had to do was just wait for the next election.
Anyway it is done now. Bring on the public debate so we can hear both sides of the argument and then let us decide.
As an aside I'm curious whether the postal vote will be anonymous or not. If it is, it will be open to abuse. If it isn't, why isn't it, and how do they secure that information? Does anybody know?
