The modern family doesn’t seem grasp the concept of achieving their aims incrementally.
Such as buying a smaller older house further away and as their finances improve, update their dwelling at the same time moving closer to the centre off town or city or a new house etc.
It took my parents 4 houses to have the luxury of the convenience and amenities supplied by living near the centre off town.
