Paulsen's was always been a bit iffy. I recall speaking to some management people from SBM a year or more back who where clearly of the view that the original study by Taipan was, shall we say, optimistic. As currently configured, the strip ratio for the open cut part of Paulsen's is over 16:1. That's a lot of money spent on exposing the ore, particularly if the ground is hard requiring extensive blasting etc.
