If my memory is correct (bit dubious these days) last year NEA completely closed/wound up the old IP department which dealt with filing patents for others etc. NEA also relocated from Perth to Sydney and would have lost a lot of staff in the shift (Who from WA would want to live in Sydney?)

These two combined could have peed off a lot of staff.
