You have to be impressed by the folks at Penrice. They are doing a wonderful job keeping this old dog alive.

With the Australian dollar at the current levels imported Soda Ash must be very cheap in AUD terms. So they have to keep the costs down despite ever increasing energy costs.

As far as I know the old factory at Osborne is still chugging along. There may not be cash for long term maintenance but just keeping such an old plant limping along is commendable.

I suppose they are still keeping alive old trades that would otherwise be lost to us. I understand some of their drives are still using DC power that preceded the common use of AC electricity.

With a bit of luck they will be able to keep it going for some time.

The folks at the quarry are also doing a great job digging out the remaining limestone from ever deeper levels and shipping it to Osborne on the venerable old railway.
