They are not mining 40,000T of ore, it is 40,000T of ore and waste. Working backwards from the 4.5mT mining rate given elsewhere, plus they are working 5 12hr shifts/week. We get an approximation of 18,000T ore/day.
Given that the 300,000T figure was in the quarterly report, it is possible that the ore stockpiles are up substantially by now. Since the end of the quarter, there has been 34 working days. At 18,000T/d = 612,000 additional tonnes ore stockpiled.
