Sophisticated investors are not here to dream the dream, or fight like cat and dog as to who is right and who is wrong, they are here to make money. They usually get a good chance to make money by getting stock at a good discount to the last market price, but if they can't they take their losses (usually only small) and move on to the next deal.
They have probably got wind that the high impact is not going too well etc and are heading for the exists.
