Last night "crude oil prices rose to fresh record highs after Libya said it was studying options to cut output in response to possible U.S actions against producer countries. The August Nymex crude oil quote rose by US$5.09 or 3.8pct to US$139.64 a barrel earlier hitting an all time high of $140.39 a barrel. London Brent crude rose by US$5.50 to US$139.83 a barrel.
Base metal prices rallied on the London Metal Exchange on Thursday, in response to a weaker US dollar. Zinc prices gained 6.6pct while copper prices gained 1.6pct. The price of gold followed the oil price higher. The August Comex gold contract rose by US$32.80 an ounce to US$915.10."
