We can't read anything of any great importance into the trading suspension,,, as it's just standard procedure if the company needs time to collect and correlate all the relivant facts associated with the announcement..
ASX rules are such that,,, even if you know right from the start ,, that you need 5 days------ you must start by applying for a trading halt,,,, which has an official duration of 3 days ONLY... Then you apply for a suspension,, which is basically indefinate, and that gives you the extra two days, or more if you need it !!
The difference in trading structure is that during a trading halt,,,,, all bids to buy and sale listings are frozen..... You can cancel an existing bid to buy or cancel a sale listing during a trading halt BUT---You cannot make a NEW bid for purchase or new sale listing..
However ,, once the shares are suspended, the entire market deepth slate is wiped clean, and when they come back on trading,,, everybody has to scramble and jockey for position on the board !!
Earlier last year there was a dozen or so ASX listed companys went into suspension because they could not get their Audited financial statements released to the market by the due date..Many had ligitimate reasons, like joint venture financial arrangements not completed etc. and some remained in suspension for six weeks or more. NO problems though, there all still out there and trading well now !!
If this is good news like we all hope,Then it's entirely possible that the company wants to qualify it in as much detail as can be mustered, rather than just announce some wishy-washy statement like "" We found gas"..
An announcement like that would just put the SP in no-mans-land, and certainly would'nt be helpfull to us !!
