In PNG, the Stanley gas project is more than a commercial operation: it is a political promise to local people . That is why, I think, even with falling oil and gas prices, Talisman and Horizon will have to speed up the gas plant construction following pressures from the PNG government (which, in exchange, may then speed up with the approval of the Elevala/Ketu PDL).

"Minister Duban said it is a step forward and he urged interested companies to talk directly with project operators Elk Antelope and Stanley Gas for the project to be commercially driven.
He added that Stanley Gas would power some of the areas without electricity and it is a great initiative by the government.
Hydro-electricity has been the main source of energy but the present government is initiating the use of gas as another source that could supply electricity to many urban and rural areas in Papua New Guinea".
