Cracks have started to form around Putin and Russia's ability to continue a prolonged war. Putin has in recent days talked in more reconcilatory tone and the need to re-enage with the west.
Regardless what this war has demonstrated to the west is how weak, demoralised and dilapitated the russian military is. I am sure the western military analyst are watching this and breathing some relief in the poor performance of Putin's army. If putin cannot even subdue Ukraine forces there in shows the limit of his conventional forces.
Nuclear force would of course be a different calculus.
