Worth checking the below article relating to mobile giving back in 2010 and how the system works in the US.

Potential win-win scenario for both charities and regular donors given charities through ACU's app will have access to the donors contact details (not usually the case with SMS messaging or third party collections) and in turn the donors will know that at least 85% of their donation is guaranteed to hit their desired location as opposed to the typical industry standard of 32%. The giving sector could be revolutionized here with 3rd, 4th and 5th parties (maybe more) cut out with regular donors utilizing this app and in turn SMS messaging to raise money being superseded?

"Mobile giving gained recognition following its incredible success at raising funds for the victims of the Haiti earthquake in January 2010. The Red Cross alone raised an astounding $32 million when more than 3 million people texted the word “haiti” to make a $10 donation. That success has since spurred an interesting discussion about the potential that mobile giving has as a fundraising tool going forward.

Now, obviously we cannot expect to replicate this kind of success. These were unique circumstances: an extremely large organization operating with huge amounts of funding, and help from the press and celebrities."
