The idea of exporting the energy through Hydrogen fuel cells is interesting. Iceland also "exports" renewable power through aluminium smelting and other energy intensive industries that have a physical output. I've recently read about using geothermal heat to produce biodiesel and even oil through pyrolisis, without converting it to electricity.
