With scaling in oil pipes the whole aim was to prevent it. This was done using down hole injection of scale inhibitor chemicals to prevent scale forming in the first place. This worked nearly all the time. The water was reinjected down hole.
When it didn't work, occassional use of descaling chemicals shifted it with reinjection down hole.
If not the pipe was replaced. Allowing the old pipes to dry out for months in sun, then a bit of hammering loosened the scale and it could be mechanically removed. There are regulations on disposal of low level radioactive materials in every aus state. Just follow them.I stopped doing this work over a decade ago and dont know what current situation is.
