Hey NeilN, thats really intersting, I've looked at Bassendeans quite a bit too, nutrient analysis, A,AO,O horizon hydrophobicity etc. They sure are pretty leached. I wonder how the Thorium is sticking around. What depths are your samples coming from? Where you looking for anything in particular? Bassendean sands would be a mixture of ancient beach sand, (since the sea reached to virtually the foot of the scarp in early inter glacial periods) + elluvial deposits from an eroding scarp face + aeolian deposits from inland Australia.
I've read many times that the mineral richness of the Darling range and SCP in places is due to long (really really long) term aeolian deposition of minerals from the interior.
So nothing in Quindalup system, do you find anything in the Spearwood?
Are you at the Chem centre?
