oilburner, I think you misunderstand Stephen Fry's point.
My understanding is that he is challenging, using examples, the need for the confession that you quote.
As has been pointed out why should an all powerful, all loving God have a requirement that "every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father"?
If we are truly children of God this to me seems absurd. As a father, I wouldn't expect my children to constantly praise me and tell me how great I am; in fact I would be highly embarrassed if they did.
