I lived on a qtr acre block and no way was it sterile. There was always guinea grass growing which kept a flock of mannikins happy and we kept a bird bath full. We had birds as constant companions.
We moved early this year and it will take time to attract a new lot to us. The birdbath hardly gets visited. :(
