The NRM apply Constrained, Sterile and Restricted classifications to land. There are certain requirements associated with these land types. A Constrained Land classification means that access to land may be possible, but only under specific conditions. A Sterile Land classification means that no access to mine or explore a certain area is permissible. A Restricted Area (RA) classification means that access may be limited or may not be allowedin a certain area depending on the type of tenure sought, the number of tenures permitted for that area, the amount of area required and the term permitted. Additional conditions may be placed on tenures which occur in RAs. Consultation with the referral entity is also required prior to undertaking exploration or mining.
