I am sure you will learn the lessons the market hands out daily and in its cycles (theres always a bull market somewhere) and sectors. Your closing sentence paraphrases of what I have been trying to say ... about valuation etc. (business performance drives ultimately drives earnings which drives the "worth" of the company to the investor).
The market is a great teacher ... and when you've lost hundreds of thousands of dollars (and obviously made more hundreds of thousands else you're broke) you tend to remember the lessons.
Since I asked about your background I'll just give you a snippet of mine ... spent a lifetime with software companies in sales and market, undergraduate degree in mathematics and masters in applied finance (securities valuation, banking & treasury). Self directed investing for 30 years. My speciality areas are energy (oil & gas in particular), technology and finance and I only post in those areas and not only on those I own.
Wholehearted agree - successful investing is hard - especially when you don't know what you don't know - and there is little we (i.e. outside of the company) can effectively do about it.
