Regarding the talk about thorium, is it really safer than a PROPERLY DESIGNED uranium reactor? Current generation uranium power plants are safe! Uranium is not an infant technology, we're into the 4th or 5th generation of reactors already.
Not only does thorium have a long way to catch up to uranium (and China and India aren't going to wait for thorium to become commercialised before they continue building their 100s of power plants) but if it doesn't have a convincing and obvious safety/cost advantage over uranium, I don't see why it's likely to replace uranium.
