Victoria Petroleum N.L. as Operator for the PEL 104 Joint Venture drilling Wirraway-1 in PEL
104 on the western margin of the South Australian Cooper Basin advises that at 0600 hrs
Central Standard Time today, the operation was drilling ahead at 1,735 metres in the basal
Birkhead sands after carrying out open hole Drill Stem Test No.1 over the interval 1,719 –
1,723.4 metres. Analysis of the drill stem test results indicate a misrun as the tool plugged
on opening. Open hole Drill Stem Test No.1 was run to test good oil shows observed in the
target sands of the Birkhead Formation from 1,717 – 1,723.4 metres.
Upon the resumption of drilling continuing good oil shows have been observed in the
Birkhead formation sands to the current depth of 1,735 metres. The oils shows seen from
1,719 metres to the present depth will be evaluated by wire line logs and further drill stem
tests after the well has drilled to the planned total depth of 1,991 metres.
