Firstly let me say I have never shorted a stock so my assumptions may be way out. I am, however, struggling with your logic.
Firstly if you are long HDR for the medium to long term and believe in the prospects why do you need insurance for short term fluctuations? And if you did wouldn't it be better to sell some shares if you weren't comfortable with the size of the holding?
Would this strategy be more applicable for those with margin loans where a short term loss could cause some problems?
