Nice fiind but that is Tata Power not Tata Steel. The "unsubstantiated rumour" I've heard about Tata Steel is that they were as keen as mustard about the dyesolar technology, it is just a matter of whether they can see a near-term quid in it. (mods: it is not really unsubstantiated nor a rumour as Dyesol management said as much at a public meeting. If someone who was at that meeting - the 2009 AGM - were to say that I invented the comment or even misreported the comment then I will gladly TOU myself).
Tata is like one of the hong kong hongs (Hutchison Whampoa, Swire, Jardine Matheson) in that its competitive advantage is its business model, not its technical expertise. As such it will have a crack at any sector where it sees a profit.
