They didn't just draw a cross in the dirt with their toe and say "drill here - seems like a good spot" - the first stage of drilling is angled drilling into the brescia pipes - brescia pipes aren't made of worthless rock, instead they typically have economic grades of minerals. They would have to be very unlucky not to hit decent grades.
