I bought my shares through CMC Markets. Once the share purchase went through, a contract was sent to me to confirm transaction. That contract has my SRN number on it.

Also, I receive monthly statements from different share register companies that I bought and sold shares in throughout that month. A lot of paperwork and a pain in the butt but it is worth it.
