Best time to control these insect pests is in winter before they climb and become adults.
Use 'White oil' and spray the tree in winter, covering the lower trunk and branches. This is when they are most vulnerable, a ‘nymphal stage’ overwintering on the lower parts of citrus trees.
You could also try soapy water, laced with a dose of ‘Kero’; just shake and spray. They are easier to kill at this stage and you won't get your hands stained.
Just watch your eyes with the larger ones as they can get quite agro; they'll spit at you and you'll definitely know it if it gets in your eyes!
