You've been reading the MSM which is not worth the space it's written into.
The issue always has been the encroachment of NATO to Russian borders, from 1991.
The west ignored this, in fact ran against not moving one more inch to the East, the sole reason USSR gave back East Germany.
Russia is not interested in the rest of Europe, just to not have missiles pointed at it from it's borders.
The current conflict in Ukraine, which will be settled shortly, and the development of BRICS will sort out the fools in the EU, GB and USA.
